Grow Your Business By Becoming The Community Expert

With hundreds of Realtors to choose from in the palm of your hand, it can be difficult to stand out and make a name for yourself in the eyes of buyers and sellers. Establishing yourself as a suburb's community expert can be an excellent way to differentiate yourself from the crowd.

Here are a few ways to get started:

1. Get Involved

Make an effort to attend community events like festivals and fundraisers, along with city council meetings or town hall style forums. Meeting and mingling with new people will keep you in-the-know on what people love most about the area and current on any hot button issues that are impacting residents.

2. Study More Than The Market

Being a true community expert goes well beyond MLS stats and figures. Show the community that you have local knowledge to offer beyond the typical expectations of a Realtor. Keep a list of trusted local contractors to share with those in need. Have dinner at a different locally owned restaurant every weekend and share positive experiences on your Facebook page.

3. Have A Community-Specific Marketing Budget

Create a separate marketing budget devoted specifically to promoting yourself in the community you’re targeting. Send out monthly postcards with valuable information, create Facebook ads that are zip code or neighborhood specific, and stay in touch with residents you already know through frequent helpful emails. Participate in the annual parade and festival or consider sponsoring an event if you are able. Sticking to your budget is key to keeping your sanity!

4. Give Client Shout-Outs

Real life stories humanize your mission and prove to the public that you’re backing up what you say you’re about. Find fun ways to put your clients in the spotlight: post about the business they own, ask if you can share before and after photos from their kitchen renovation, and of course snap a photo of their smiling faces on closing day.

5. Stay Consistent

If your goal is to become the community expert, you must stay committed. It will take time to build your reputation and solidify yourself as a professional that can be trusted, but it will happen with consistency!
